Social Determinants of Health among Elderly: an Anthropological Study

The present paper is based on the study conducted among the elderly aged above 60 years from the Naggar village of Himachal Pradesh (India) to understand their general attitudes and opinions about health status. A total of 160 elderly (89 males and 79 females) were involved in the present study and the sample was identified using the purposive sampling. Hypertension was found to be a major health problem among the elderly. It was found that with modernisation of the state, older morals are being replaced by „individualism‟ and the family‟s ability to give quality care to older people is declining.
